How to utilise your holiday allowance 2024
With many allowances restarting again in January, we want to show how you can take 25 days of annual leave for 55 days off work. A full-time worker in the UK who works a five-day week has the right to 28 days' holiday allowance per year. Employers can insist that you take some of your paid holiday on bank holidays, and some may also insist that you are available to work on bank holidays so it’s important to understand how you can utilise these days to get the most leave possible. With many allowances restarting again in January, we want to show you how by taking the below 25 days of annual leave, you will have 55 days.• 5th January 2024 – 9th January 2024 = 9 days leave
• 25th March 2024 – 28th March 2024 AND 2nd April 2024 – 5th April 2024 = 16 days leave
• 7th May 2024 – 10th May 2024 = 9 days leave
• 28th May 2024 – 31st May 2024 = 9 days leave
• 23rd, 24th, 27th, 30th & 31st December 2024 = 12 days leave
It’s important to remember than an employer can turn down a holiday request but they need to make sure they've got a valid reason for doing so. For example, they can refuse a holiday request if it wouldn't be practical or convenient for the business, such as at a busy time of year, or if it would cause understaffing.
However you chose to spend your holiday entitlement next year, we wish you happy holidays!
